ouch

I can tell your new and just messing around with the various sounds in FL so I will try not to give too much advanced criticism just yet...also WritersBlock hit the nail on the head with his review. aside from the sounds, there just wasn't too much to this piece. There was just a simple dancekick, which doesn't fit in much with the composition...try using a kick "in real drumkits"

But besides the kick, try adding hi hats (why didn't you keep them playing consistently?)on each measure, add a crash at the beginning of every four bars, a snare at every third measure, and then fill in the kicks to how you like it. That should help you start making basic drum patterns. And like writersblock said, FPC is a good start. you'll eventually want to look around for more realistic samples on the web and load them into FPC once you get further experienced in FL.

The guitar melodies nothing greater than okay, but they lack an interesting rhythm (it may sound better with a drumset in the background complimenting it). I like how you panned both of the guitars, but they could have a more defined direction..you might want to put some light compression on them, and work on messing with the effects within the FL slayer plugin to make your own tones instead of using the overused, boring presets ;).but really, i would love to hear a different sound altogether...

Once you get a good drumbeat done, add some organ chords or a rhythm guitar to play in the background, and put a bassline in the center. then you will have a much fuller sound, and a more complete composition.

Keep making music dude! everyone has to start somewhere. Have fun :)

pretty good, pretty good..

Enjoyable track here. I like the echoing plucked sounds, swelling bassy pads (some sort of filter would be great on them), and the high whistle sounds. it's pretty fresh for the opening of a track. the drums work their way in quite well, so you're doing a pretty great job of sequencing. The piano interlude (of the interlude) is nice and I like echo effect on them. That trancey synth is a really cool fit too. so composition is pretty damn nice.

drums samples = ew. well, maybe I'm being too critical of this because I've suggested different samples than the FPC and FL stock ones in my last 3 or 4 reviews too. Dance kicks could use more subbass, make the clap/snare a bit louder and put some reverb on it-my main beef is with the hi hat. it also wouldn't be a bad idea to include some more variation in this department too, for instance splitting one of the hi hat hits into sixteenths and filling in more bass kicks.

I would say this never really built up into something epic and active, but its just an interlude. Well done WB, good luck on the CTSG collab :)

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks for the criticisms, I'll try and fix up the drums with my future works.

Yeah, good luck to you, too, you've still got a few spots that need filling, so good luck with that.
And welcome to the review request club =D

Fresh song!

This track has a nice eletronica feel but with some very nice hip hop elements in here. The brass you started off with is ace- subkicks work great, and the other kicks mix in perfectly with the bassline to sculpt out a nice bass sound. Lots of drum variation (i love the hi hats once again), you keep the drums moving nice and flowing in the first verse. The synth is nice and sharp- and the main melodies you use have a nice rhythm and are simple and laidback, and a good element in making a track easier to rap around.

I like the chorus verse real much, great beat, great melodical construction and I like the extended brass notes. I believe some of those sounds and synths you put in the right speaker could be raised a level or too, but maybe some silence and room is needed to left open for a rap.

The second verse is real nice following up the main chorus, great job packing it with more synths and keeping a more intensive flow. snares and claps do a great job rolling, and you did a great job with the phasers put on the hi hats at the end. The track doesn't loop too well- I would rather just hear a leadup and a finish with a few seconds- but it doesnt matter that much.

Great mixing job, original hip hop sound, sweet synth development and instrument selection, overall a pretty tight track.

thanks for the in depth review, much apreciated

good groove!

another nice little loop here, the sound is not my favorite, but this one too was mixed quite well and has a nice thang of riffs. Brass is an original touch, I love the bassline, echoing sounds are pretty cool, panned drums are sweet, and I like the harmonization with the syntns in the second portion of the loop. Can't think of any real criticism to give in here and say much more- so nice job overall!

very nice loop here, very rappable beat, even though its drum n bass. I love the gentle reese and lower bassy sounds with the slow fitler/phaser whatever effect that slowly swells. I like that cool sounding melody in my left speaker. (would be cool if you threw some soft string sounds in the right speaker, it would make a bit fuller, balanced sound) great synth selection/development, has an original feel. Drums are great and slow too, love the cruncy hi hats and their rhythm, bass kick might be able to use more oomph- but that could just be a problem with my setup.

Good work ryeguy!

added strings :D

Hmm

i tried refreshing this page multiple times, and then the visualizer comes up but the track doesn't play- which is quite odd. So I downloaded it, but still just complete silence. So you may want to reupload this track.

....

(I hope I made you laugh a little :) )

Haggard responds:

Yes, a little :P

I like this one very much

Definetly continue on this one man, it's got a real lovely atmosphere. It indeed does have a very dreamy atmosphere (although I don't see how repetition equates to making dreamy feeling-but regardless, I've listened to this atleast 10-15 times while just browsing the BBS and didn't get tired of it all) and it loops, and flows flawlessy. I can picture my young years as a child at a carnival at night, riding a marry-go-round (forget what you call them), eating cotton candy, and actually having respect for my parents. Just living a life completely devoid of worries. I love that gated (?) synth, and that cheery melody that back it. the windchime is a perfect fit, just that little spice that completes the loop and adds a genuine touch.

you say its poorly equalized/mastered/compressed but I think its A-Ok, although I can't do engineering stuff really worth a damn. It sounds really crisp and airy, a perfect EQ for a floaty, dreamy sound- and your drums sound like they are on an adequate level, not too loud, not too quiet, the perfect blend for this clip.

so keep up this for sure, I can't think of much too add- you can try building on to the backing melody, add subtle changes as you go, and then maybe bringing in some light bassy pads or strings and add some deep reverbed keys. Just an idea- but keep trying to finish this- its a great piece. I have trouble finishing tracks myself. I'll definetly favorite the full version if you ever release it. Good luck!

it might just be a simple loop to others, but somehow this one just struck a chord with me.

Seriana responds:

Thanks for the review, I really appreciate it.

I was trying to go for that feeling of being young and innocent again, but it's all interpretation I guess. You must have a good ear.

I'll reupload the finished version. Thanks again for the support.

this one works as well :p

A tad annoying like the reviewer below said, but its serves its purpose. It's definetly got a more light hearted "haha you suck" gameover for a child type of game, then one commemorating a fallen warrior. the melody and bassline are great, and an extra point for the ending :P i like the 32nds and then the resolving, i would've ended on a chord to. And maybe a synth to play some extended notes would give this a fuller sound too.

keep it up as usual ID :P

itsameyayo responds:

Thanks! Yeah, annoying was the purpose, and it seems to be working, lol. Sorry if it's too annoying for yah ;)

-I wanted to leave the ending empty so it annoys further, not like the gamer would deserve more, they lost :P

-Once again, thanks!

*pumps fist*

this is near perfect, perhaps perfect, possibly could use more of a build- but it could work depending on the purpose. The arrangement is excellent. I like the snares and crash cymbals, and the brass and strings/choirs- very good selection for a battle theme.

maybe make the crash cymbals and put more emphasis on the brass section since it's battle based- but sweet work!

itsameyayo responds:

It's more a victory theme (hence the title) but yeah, definitely epic :D

-Thanks! hmm, oh, btw, the crash cymbals are real :D

I've listened to this track multiple times...

Very interesting collection of two loops here ID.

First loop is nice man, I like that swirhling sparkly pad, and how the distorted panned melodies on the side and how the glitchyish drums with a nice fancy effect work there way in. A real nice, creepy and slow build. It reminds me of like the "ogotus" being in a laboratory being operated on, and there's a slow rise in the end like they're breaking out of the test tubes.

I really enjoy the second loop! It's got a real nice happy feeling and smooth melodical progression, for example the Ogotu's frolicing around once they're exposed to the free world. It's bit tranceyish while retaining an original edge. i like the piano melodies, and the echoing plucked string sounds in the second phase. Smooth strings add a nice layer and calming layer of bassy warmth. I love the melodies and harmonization in here. It's the perfect loop to use for a game.

put some structure and a more detailed ending (i know it was just for a game) and this a 10/10 ;)

awesome track dude!!! i hope you make more like this.

itsameyayo responds:

Nice, thanks! I'm just plowing through a lot of stuff, I hope to be a film composer or video game composer someday.

Cherish the moment. For in a moment, it will be gone.
