I definetly am not a "metalhead" but great job on this track. From what I've heard, usually (non-professional) people don't effectively use metalized vocals in a song like this. the growling, screaming is from deep within and sounds insanely evil in this track. So great job on the vocals, I usually don't like this style but this was definetly my favorite part of this track. They are very nice around 1:35 as well. I'm lovin the heavy ass guitar riffs. The guitar riff in the conclusion is perfect.

The acoustic sections adds a really nice creepy touch, the tone sounds almost medieval. I like the drums, they're suitable but sound a tad cheap. Would love to hear an electric guitar solo in here, even a acoustic solo fading out in the end would be perfect. Some gothic sounding choir pads would be a perfect fit in here as well.

excellent stuff! \m/

I'm astounded that there are people on NG, that actually review according to product... whether or not they like the type of music. I'm so used to seeing..."not my style..so I give it a 3". Not that I care about the score...its the attitude.

So HUGE thank you!
I agree with every aspect of your review. We are evolving...with every tune we work on and put out. So I hope you stay tuned. Definitely would like to hear your thoughts again.

So thanks for the kick ass review, and hope you listen to MORE metal in the future! \m/ haha.

Quarl? More like COORL

Cool + Quarl = COORL ahem excuse the lame joke...>_>

this a lovely, soft ambient piece. Once again, great job on the beat and drums, very rhyhtmically sound stuff as usual. They have a nice sound too and the whistle you add in every beat or so adds some diversity.

I love the cloud? synths stuff as they just skip through the track so sweetly. And I love when you harmonize the sounds. I love the lead guitarish sounding tones. Very serene melodies.

Great stuff! If I had to give some criticism, I guess you could use different levels of volume through out the track to make it more dynamic...maybe that would ruin the feel...but i'm loving it!

Quarl responds:

You mean some chrechendos and dechrechendos? I used a few in there. Dunno. The program I use doesn't have alot of dynamic control with the mixing process so it's hard to get things to sound right. Thanks for the nice feed back :)

Blah...

this is just not very nice...but not horrible if you're just starting.

the drum buildup is kinda nice in here but would fare to be repetitive after a minute-its a basic not very interesting bit, so I suggest spicing it throughout.

Just as the melodies there is some major clanging in the bass...try to either spread your chords apart more or just dont use chords at all in lower octaves(here it just sounded overly muddy)

on the compositional side, its pretty decent for suspense. The basslines are nice and have a bit of a creepy feel. I like the synths that sound like something falling from a sky.The melody around 1:00 is pretty slick, I definetly would have used this again in the track..and throughout the track, and possibly slowly increased the volume throughout... Another thing you could implement into this track is some freaky high pitched riffs utilizing the same melodical themes used in your track.

Good choice with the samples and synths...but clarity is a huge issue here as mentioned below. the drums sound cheesy as hell, try adding some reverb effects and mess around with equalization. Some minor clipping as well and the quality isnt all that great.

Not a bad piece of music, just needs some work to make it have a more climatic feel and better miastering. Keep it up though!

Amazing

Those are beautiful, authentic sounding keys used in here. Great mastering job regarding the piano. Melodies and the rhythm fit the theme and lyrics perfectly. I love the breaks at the end of the main piano riffs(like 1:54-1:56) which is great branch into the chrous of the song. Good job on the drums as well, and I'm loving the moody chord progression.

The guitar solo in the end is also killer, love the distorted tone in here, it suchs a great sound...lots of emotion and nicely phrased. it's also starts off nice and slow, and has a clean leggato riff once it advances, and finishes off with the simpler high note melody perfect for concluding up a song. The bass seems like it could raised be a level to make a more fuller sound...

As for the vocals, they were sang quite well and constructed nicely with the flow of the keys in the song. but I just wasn't digging the overall style and lyrics-it just sounded a little bit unoriginal and a "LOL mainstream" love song to me, like something that could be on American Idol(but that could definetly be considered a compliment). BTW, i think some black gospel women would be perfect here for backing vocals! :D

Another criticism could be the entire structuring of the song. The song was already five minutes, but it seemed mostly like a dragged out intro-it wasnt really proportionate with the rest of the track. the first chorus was only 15-20 seconds long, i dont want to limit creativity, but IMO it would have been nicer if the "meat" of the song had more to it.

Overall, excellent portrayal of talent here. Beautiful work..

jnry3 responds:

First of all, thank you for a very long and heartwarming review. :)

For the instruments, I made sure everything was "hit right". The painstaking cycle of listening to the entire song 10 times and then adjust the synthesizers paid off. Whenever I felt something was too loud or too soft, I tweaked a keypress. That took hours, and repetitive listening (I'm sure I've heard this song more than a hundred times). Thank Propellerheads for creating Reason. ^_^

Vocals could really have been better. The voice you're hearing now has been "cured" using bass boost and reverb. If you've heard the same song a week ago, you would've given a lower grade.

I agree with tweaking the bass guitar. Maybe 1dB up would be nice.

But, yeah, it's definitely a pop love song, and it would be great if someone would sing this on American Idol (so I'll take that as a compliment, thank you). And it's sort-of a "dragged-out" intro with variations. Again, it's pop -- chords are predictable and easy to remember (since there's only two sets of chords); I let the dynamics play the song.

Right now, I can't think of any way of restructuring the song. I find it perfect, or feel-perfect, at least.

Again, thank you for every compliment. Makes all the effort put here worth it. :)

I got say this is top ten!

In the most relaxing tracks I've ever heard. Perfect, proffesional sound. Perfect levels of reverb and its almost flawlessly mastered. The slowness, simpleness is calming and is perferct track to listen to right before going to bed.

The airy pads are perfect in here, they sound like an ocean of love. And I love the carribean based percussion with some jazz influenced bits in here(and I love how it picks up in the end!) The piano is so peaceful and the melodies flow with the track so perfectly. The Bass sounds amazing in here. I love the kinda muffled guitar sounding tone, and the riffs are sexy!

Great work!

Hi Suspended-3rd-Chord! :)
Thanks so much for yourwords, i really appreciate this kind of reviews!
Well, still there is a lot of work to be done but i'm glad you liked this track :)

I have to agree with the reviewer below me...

It does sound quite similar to your Charlie Brown piece...atleast the first 30 seconds and then again in the end...In the other bit around 1:15 where the melodies get serious sounding, it sounds like you're just expanding from this idea. I just listened to both, and they are different, but the rhythm and song sound quite alike...the progression invokes the same feeling and is the left hand arpreggio the same? anyway, the middle phrase of the sounds pretty nice...and overall its very good once again! there's enough diversity to distinguish from the charlie brown track tho. I find your composition pretty nice, I'll definetly look back at your page.

Well...sounds good

the loop is creepy as well....doesnt really remind of me of dungeon to be honest. it kinda reminds me of pipes...

anyway, I dont know what to grade you based on what you did in comparison of the original. I usually advise people to make their own stuff from scratch, but thats just me. so i'll just give you an 8.

either way, keep experimenting. and props for the mention of flashkit.com! its the first site where I saw "new" music, considering I had listened to only mainstream music prior. definetly is an inspiration towards me, not that you need to know :P

gleegleep responds:

Thank you very much for your thoughts. Thanks for the suggestion about making my own stuff from scratch. At some point, I'll record such stuff.

Happy Mix

Lush Mix of euphoric sounds and melodies. The saw melodies flow so well. The panned chip synth around 1:30 is floaty...the drum beat started off pretty weak, but got nice around 2:00....also adding the bassier pad around this time adds a nice feel complementing the second half of your track and rounds out your track rather nicely. good clarity all around, I think you could have made the snare samples a bit louder. track definetly invisions a sky. nice work!

Kid2Will responds:

Thanks dude, My next song should be a lil better.

In da Club!

an intense, fast paced rave track. The saw synths are pretty sick, they kinda drown out the bassline a little bit and the drums tho. But it still sounds overall nice...could use a bit more fo a defined shape to squeeze out the sound of all the instruments used here...but I kinda like it the way it is tho...the triplet hi hats fit well in here, and cool reverb clap! i know this just a loop but good idea to write a full track with.

LMAO

i've listened to this countless times, and its SO FUCKING HILARIOUS AND RANDOM. MY BALLSACK IS REALLY FUCKING BIG <----lol man. do more like this.

wyldfyre1 responds:

whats funny is no thought went into this! I just did it RIGHT on the spot and we used it in a flash. People liked it there and BAM i put it here. Next time i go on a random rant i'll post it!

Cherish the moment. For in a moment, it will be gone.
