Straight ouf a musical

glad to see you back making music man :)

Sweet blend of timpani rolls and clashing cymbals over a fast melody that reminds me of 14th century European battle..I love it when the choir is in the interlude, really cool timpani roll riffs during this part. And I love how you open up the second half of the track with a major sounding piano arrangement. Nice piano pad in the end, and excellent job at lowering the tempo to come to finish.

very nice classical composition. I think some brass in here would sound quite swell on the second portion of this track, or even featuring one of your spectacular oboe melodies would be perfect. some mid range percussion like some snare rolls would suit this piece quite well, just some extra suggestions, keep up the good work as always :)

This is evil

That lead bell melody is a bit scary, and the bass tones comment it perfectly. Like watching life go by through a portal to another world. I think the melody could have used more change throughout. I like the beat, quiet reverb drums are nice, of course if they were a bit louder it would expel more energy.

I think you could have made this thing really epic, like used more bass synths in here, and the gradually made the drums louder and put like a distorted acidy synth too make for an uber evil feel. either way, I would definetly love to hear more of the bassline tho-the most climatic part of this track was around the beginning, but the intensity decreased as the song progressed :/

good good. I'll go check out that remix! would you be able to send me a midi file of this?

Smooth!

This is total porn music dude. Those swirlhing pads are super sexy, nice laid back bells and quiet chill mix (maybe overall too quiet). Good effects on the drum loop in the background. I think you overuse that "shooting star" sound in my opinion.

if you were to continue, you could gradually increase the volume on the drums to get a more epic buildup and then lay down some soft keys. Pretty cool mix man, its nice to relax too.

excellent

mmm, very nice and almost professional sound.

sweet crisp acoustic guitar chords. Panned guitar bits are real nice. Also I love the tone, is that a real guitar or some type of technoish synth or a mixture of both? the bassline is really nice as well, and I love the beat, especially the hi hats around the second drums riff.

vocals are pretty nice man, during the verse in the beginning it kinda sounds like you're holding something back, but during the chorus and bridges you sound really good dude. I also like the multiple voice harmonzation and backing vocals. around 2:50 they sounded a bit sloppy, and had too much of a whiney tone for my taste...the conclusion also shows that you're good, as you still sounded pretty sweet without any instruments to back you.

and that solo was great, great effects! I was really anticipating this, I would definetly enjoyed a longer solo that would evolve into something more complex, but I guess a short solo fits the style :)

nice nice nice

jnry3 responds:

Instruments were recorded (or rather programmed) using Reason 3 (yes, ALL of them). Did some tweaking to the sound bytes so they would sound close to the real stuff. Mastering was done using Sonar.

Thanks for the compliment on the vocals. Seems you didn't like that spontaneous thought I had at the 2:50 mark (the "Yeah! They're playing our song!", for me, was a hurrah of sorts).

I like those effects too -- phaser + delay + overdrive. Can't get tired of it. ^_^

Thanks for one of your ever-reliable reviews and high rating!

SBB bring great honor to newground

very visual intro...a samurai warrior stands along the cliff of a mountain, and slowly transforms into an eagle and flys away. this has a quite a relaxing atmosphere with some serious sounding melodies in the lead.

sweet grand pads. the woodwindish synth sounds really cool, and fits a theme of "honor" perfectly. the pace is great, and the piano melodies drift gracely across the track. I love the chord progression around 1:50..the melodical work around 2:20 is excellent, great job of introducing the main melodies and expanding on them to add more emotion and color to the track. the beat is good again, more varied snare dynamics would be nice-o. the jingle bells were worked in more then adequately.

when the second half ot the track starts after the tom hits-a possible idea would be to use some steadier, slightly louder percussion(like a shaker to replace the hi hats and maybe a lower tom to replace the bass kick).

one thing that really strikes a chord with me is the flute solo in the end...very serious sounding, and its a dagger when it takes that emotional bend, and slides right back in, perfect resolution to the track.

perfect levels of reverb(how many times have I said this to you in my reviews? haha) to illustrate the endless sky.

good job SBB(swedish badass buddy)

On fire

sweet joy this one's hot and funkee. great track. love the organs, and jazzyish percussion hits over the hip hop beat. Love how you work in the shakers and those bells(?). sounds authentic and chill yo. perfect for laying over an early 90s type of rap. really cool melodies. I love that synth around 1:30 that slowly slides around. crisp clarity, great flow, and tight man! no real criticism over here, but some scratch FX would be sick as hell.

TimeBender responds:

I wish I could scratch lol Thanks for the advice man, this is good.

an old man

this has a really cool opening, sweet piano riffs. it actually sounds more like an old school sound with the antique piano and opening beat. That synth doesn't lay well over the piano melodies tho, not sure if its off key or whatever, but it doesnt gel together with me. the sub bass hits were nice, I would like to hear more of that. The clearer drum beat that you place on the top of the mix at the end is decent, but it doesnt sound too go over the other beat...the reverse effects came to suddenly, and I think you could have made a smoother finish...

alright ideas, but you just need to combine all the instruments so they make a more fitting harmony.

TimeBender responds:

Thanks for the advice! Your music is a big inspiration for me now.

tighty whitey

the opening guitar parts sound something out of modern alternative rock song, and then when you add the bells and synths it kinda fuses an 80s electro type a sound, so pretty sweet parts. I love the piano ideas, you should expand on this bit a more. (I would've opened up more on this section and added maybe some soft strings after 4 bars or so) drums are pretty nice, could use a little more dynamics, and a more consistent, faster beat in the second half of the track.

really cool melodical work-and interesting use of synths. i dont really like FL slayer, but what you gonna do? the lead fl slayer riffs kinda drowns out the rest of the track, so I'd lower these volume levls 2-3 DB or so. the tone around 2:05 was too screechy for me, so experiment with different presets! i always sucked at making a good slayer tone..

this could use some bass for sure... the second riff you introduce around 0:10, you could copy and lower that an octave and it would be a perfect bassline IMO.

Good stuff once again wyldfyre!

wyldfyre1 responds:

lol there's bass there man! haha. In fact 2 different riffs of bass They are so identical though that its probably easy to miss it. FL slayer is used way to much now adays and i can understand alot of people's problems with it however i've heard it used NICELY in the past and would like to use it nicely myself. LOL can't really play the guitar so i'm gonna emulate it haha. Yeah the piano was something i was originally gonna expand upon also! I may even add more into it in the long run. The Guitar riffs with the actual accustic in the background *(mind my speling) just blows my mind for some reason i think it sounds damn good haha. But i may see what i can do about turning it down some. Thanks for another great review man!

this is definetly a blend of weird/unique sounds...but its pretty cool. nice layer of instruments going on decent flow. Does sound partially Asian, and kinda honorable like the scenes right before a warrior's battle(pretty much like you described). I like the experimental sound effect stuff around 1:00-although its a bit random. some definetly interesting melodies in here. in scenes like this, you need a woodwind of sorts.

one thing that would make this better is tweak the presets a little more and add varying amounts of reverbs and other effects. it sounds like you're using presets straight outta FL sytrus. I don't mean that as an insult at all tho, and it doesnt sound bad, it would just add some personal character to your music and make a more unique sound. The drums could be a bit better, the simple rhythms suit the themes, but you could change the samples and possibly use a taiko or some ethnic based samples in here. I like the wobbly piano tone. the synth strings create a nice atmosphere. you could EQ and adjust volumes levels around the chorus sections like 1:15 too balance all the instruments more equally-love the weird choir/orchestra hit sounds and how you used them.

still good enjoyable stuff, keep at it for sure.

wyldfyre1 responds:

beleive it or not there are alot of tweaks already in this song. It has several FX in it. Some of the sounds are sounds from FL studio because really thats all i have haha i've just recently started searching for new sounds and what not. I may end up adding some windflutes or some sort of pipe sound in there here soon. The actual song was ment to tell a story. You basicly got the idea from what i read here haha. thanks for the review and i'll be sure to add more to this when i'm mused enough to work on it again =).

I dont see whats wrong with it...

first off, I would like someone to explain how this doesnt have any emotion. Personally I do feel that this has a little something lacking compared to the rsst of your tracks TT, like it doesnt have one of those completely remorable melodies that makes me go "Wow thats defintely TT!". dont get me wrong, thats just because I've been spoiled by your other music :P this is still a great track.

I think its serves its purpose, some interesting conga percussive riffs to fit the travel theme, and some subtle, yet interesting tribal sounding melodies. Great use of the pan flute and the twinkle bell sound. I like when you pick up with the acoustic guitar, its adds some more intensity and has a real crips sound. I guess one thing it lacks is an epic build-although in a sense something more active couldp possibly ruin the laid-back atmosphere, but of course if you wanted to go down that track some more faster, "active" drums a lot like the ones that you've implemented into the collab were doing, and some strings would sound tight.

So good stuff once again, this a great track man.

Twistedtechnology responds:

yea, i wanted to keep this one pretty laid back, didn't want to make it too active. I tried putting in some strings but i didn't really do a good job at it so i just left them out.

Im glad you enjoyed the piece though man.

Ima take another crack at that collab. It seems to be the only piece i can work on atm......lol

Cherish the moment. For in a moment, it will be gone.
